Red face can I delay my entry?

    Hi,

I am starting a new business in HK. I have a managed to get a temporary work visa for one year for myself , my wife and son.

We need to get the visas stamped before June
    10th 2008.

My wife is not yet ready to move to HK and would need about 8-10 months to wind up her business here in our home country.

So can my wife and son stamp the visa and go back to our home country and return after a year?

Is there any risk involved in doing this?

Or should I not bring them in June at all and re-apply for their visa next year when I apply for extension?

    Thank you!

I'd go with the last suggestion, assuming that you hold passports that allow your wife & son to visit for as long as you would like during the year.

Immigration obviously sees when you go in and out, so applying for an extnsion claiming that your wife had been resident here for a year when in fact she just visited once or twice for a few days opens up potential issues.

But also why not email Immigration and ask their advice - it's not like you're trying to do something tricky here. Simply tell them that unfortunately your wife will not be able to join you as soon as planned and ask their advice on how to handle the visas.

Some of us have been in a smilar boat. You can get an extension or do as above.
They are your dependents, right ? Immigration doesn't really care - they have bigger fish to fry..
