Enter HK on visit Visa while dependant visa in progress ?

    Hello,

I have applied for dependant visa for my wife and kid a month back.
Have given relevant proofs for income and stay.

Will it be a good idea to get them here immediately as visitors ? The visitor visa will be 14 days
So, If all works out well we will get the dependant visa before they complete their 14 days.

So is this a good idea ? Or do the experts in the forum see something amiss ?
Also when I do get the dependant visa ,how will i get them stamped ?

    Many thanks,
    Shirish

As you is brown, I wouldn't risk it. If you were white, I would have said go for it (and in any case you would have got a longer visa). I presume you (and your dependants) are on Indian passports?

No it's not really a good idea. 14 days doesn't really give you much room for manouvre. Should the visa take longer for any reason your wife and kids would have to leave and re-enter HK.

The dependant visa is issued as a sticker which should be put in the dependant's passport and shown to immigration when they enter HK to take residence as a dependant. Once in HK the dependant needs to register for a HKID at immigration tower.

i did that. but i had 3 months of visa free stay though. so after i got it, i just went to macau to get it stamped. but wouldn't do it with just 14 days though. i think i got it like 3 weeks after i got here or something.

    Return Ticket.

Yes. Specially for Indian, Philippines, Thai and other Asian passport holders.

looks like you got your visa now, but anyway, yes, you need a return ticket. as an american, they even checked it before i left chicago. what people do is, they buy a turbo jet boat ticket to macau, which doesn't cost much. so it qualifies as leaving hong kong. you don't have to use it or anything if you don't want to go there. i ended up going anyway to get my visa stamped after i got it in hong kong.
