Do I need a HK ID to get a helper a visa?

I am a US citizen planning to move to Hong Kong soon for a year. I do not plan on working in HK and will leave to China when my stay is up...I believe every 90 days for US passport holder. If I plan on hiring a Filipino helper (I already have someone in mind...but not thru an agency) do I need to have a HK ID card? I read somewhere that all I need to have is 200,000 HKG in the bank. Can anyone please help? Thanks so much!

No - only a legal Hong Kong Resident may sponsor a Domestic Helper visa. See point (j) here.

Moreover, you cannot legally "move to HK for a year" without a visa. You need to be aware that what you plan to do is illegal so you could be refused your re-entry at any time. And you will find it quite hard to rent an apartment without a HKID.

Just show up at the Immigration Tower with your US passport and demand one.
