She flies this Thursday and will stay for a month (return ticket already bought) but my wife has just found out she only has 4 months left on her UK passport.
Will she be able to enter?

Nothing stated on the immigration website but only a quick look.
Suggest she have the return ticket available for inspection.

Found the info on this site.

seems she will be ok.
It's the airline that might refuse her to board the plane, Immigration has no issue with that.
Lets see how pedantic BA can be with an 85 yr old lady
Depending on where she is, she can get a passport renewed within a day.

If the FCO says you don't need 6 month validity, why would the airline deny boarding?
I couldn't find any information of passport validity for visitors on the HK Immigration website, but according to Discover Hong Kong, the passport needs at least one month's validity (which kind of contradicts the FCO's advice):

It is a general practice that the airline will only allow passenger boarding with a passport validity 6 mths or above.
Proof?
Sure, if the country you are going to requires 6 month validity on your passport, then the airline may deny you boarding, but where does it say that this is a blanket "general practice" regardless of the place you are visiting? For example, in the case of HK it seems you only need 1 month validity on your passport. Are you saying that as a matter of general practice BA, Virgin, CX, etc will deny you boarding from the UK to HKG if you have only 5 months validity on your passport??? If so, can you please back this up?
