From dependant Visa to Employment Visa..How hard is it?

    Hi guys,
Currently I am holding a dependent visa and it going to end very soon. I got divorced from my hk wife 1 year ago. I am on my fourth years of my dependent visa. I am been working in the food and beverage industry for the same company in the last 4 years. My company is willing to sponsor me the visa. I just want to ask you guys is it hard to get a employment visa in Hk in the food and beverage industry? I don't hold any degree or diploma. Just a high school grat but I do have 10 years working experience in what I am doing now.

Very slim chance of getting an employment visa then unless you have some special skill which can not be found locally.

Not really.. I was in similar situation, my employer had to fill/sign 2 papers only and got granted the employment visa. Apparently the immd looks at your case differently when you are already employed. Had to go out of HK and back in (did a day trip to Macau) to activate it.. Became PR 1.5 years later..

That was 7-8 years ago though :>

I would call that lucky, not a general rule. The OP is right to be concerned. But - he should just give it his best shot and worry later if not approved.

What are you actually doing? A bar manager may well get a visa, a bar tender probably wouldn't.

Or to put it another way if you're earning more than $20k per month you might be ok. Less than that might be a problem.

I know a few Bar Managers, expats with no degrees and earning over 20K on work visa.

hinloong48, really the only option is to apply for an employment visa. The alternative is to leave Hong Kong... so go for it. If it's refused, at least you tried.
