Chinese work visa with less than 6 months on passport.

Hey All,

Basically I have come to Hong Kong for a visa run back to the mainland. But I have just realised that I only have just over five months on my passport until it expires.

I am applying for a one year work visa with an English training school in the mainland. But i have read on this forum of some people who have managed to obtain visas that expire after their passports. I will be receiving the required documents for the visa application next week and i think I might go ahead and apply and then try enter China if my visa is approved.

I hold a British passport and it takes 3-4 weeks for a renewal. I really don't want to wait that long in HK even though I have a three star HKID.

So overall I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for my situation or any kind of information that would help would be greatly appreciated.

It might be a bit late now, but have you ever considered getting a second (British) passport. When I was travelling intesively due to my former job, I found having a second passport (travel using one while the other is somewhere for some visa application, or has a entance stamp from a country that isn't exactly on friendly terms with a country I have to travel to) very convenient.
Mr. Elle, a Brit, got one a few years ago (I've got two German passports).

two passports that are still active (not cut) is that allowed??? I see you have it for German Passport, any other people have two passports that can still be used. seems like a good idea.

Mr Elle has two valid British passports, he officially applied for a second passport about two years ago and had no problem getting it granted.
I posted about it at the time, as I thought it not to be common knowledge that is is possible for Brits having a second (British) passport, but was shouted down by the usual suspects insisting everybody knows and that it is old news

Thanks Elle for the good info, another quick question which might seem dumb but I am a noob so bare with me, Mr Elle has two British passports, both passports are different numbers or the same number.

Both passports have different numbers as well as expiry dates. If you have an APEC card, make sure when you travel to an APEC country using your card to take the passport it is linked it with you.
