    Visa for work in China

    Hi guys,

So I'm in a situation where my work wants to send me to China for a week on a business trip. I understand that as I'm in the UK with British citizenship I will need to get a VISA to enter China directly, but I am also a full HK citizen with ROA and HKID card.

My question is, is there a way I can use my HK citizenship to speed up my VISA process getting in china from the UK?

Also a side question, if I travel to China after getting a VISA and want to go to HK to visit family, I know I can get in with my UK password or HKID card but could I get back into the mainland if my original VISA is single entry only?

No, not that I'm aware of. If you tell the Chinese Embassy that you are a Chinese citizen then it could actually make things worse - they could tell you that you must get a home return permit (which can only be done in HK I believe).

And to your second question, no.

Full HK Citizen I'm assuming meaning a Chinese citizen of Hong Kong SAR. Do you have a Hong Kong passport and or *** on your HKID?

Technically you should apply for a Home return pass then you can basically go in and out of China as you please visa free, but this is a pain in the ass as it takes time to organise.

If you're applying for a visa for China I think there are some extra questions for people of Chinese descent so you may want to be careful on how you answer it. Eg, (IF) you are a Chinese citizen you should NOT be getting a visa for China.

visa would probably be quicker though but HRP is much more useful.

Yes my HKID card has 3 stars for full citizen and ROA, but I thought China is completely different to HK in terms of ROA and so although I can live in HK and travel freely, i can't do this in China so technically I would not need a return home VISA?

A return home permit exists SOLELY for the purposes of Chinese Citizens of Hong Kong to enter the Mainland.

    See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_Return_Permit

As far as the Mainland is concerned, that is the only legitimate way for Chinese citizens of Hong Kong to enter the Mainland.

Don't get a home return permit. You will lose your consular protection in both Hong Kong and China. There is no need for that given your requirments.

If the OP is a "full HK citizen with ROA and HKID card", then I don't think he/she has any consular protection in Hong Kong. I agree that if the OP enters China using his/her British passport, then he/she can still get consular protection. Depending on the type of business the OP is involved in, this might be a wise move. Business deals that go sour in China can mean the overseas business partner is detained by the local police, until the deal is completed to the local businesses' satisfaction.

If the OP writes an itinerary showing that he/she needs to enter China, then enter Hong Kong, then return to China, then he /she might be able to get a double entry visa. If the OP only gets a single entry, then after entering Hong Kong, the OP should be able to get a new China visa.

I have written it a couple of times, with a HK Id based on being a Chinese national there is no consular protection of any country, be it in HK, Macao or China.

Depending on your circumstances HRTP can take several months.

Try to get a tourist visa, no big deal.
They know that you are Chinese anyway,
    It's in their database.

or get a one time China entry permit for HK Chinese nationals from CITS this is fast and the "official" route
