P.R. remaining ordinarily resident without being in HK

I have heard that study or work outside of Hong Kong can still count towards HK residency.

    **theoretically**
If I start a business in HK called ENGLISH TEACHERS ELEVENTY COOL, then rent a cheap cage home-esque place for say $2000HKD a month. (or a mortgage)

Then I contract myself out to a mainland company, work there for a few years and return back to Hong Kong, can I then claim residency based on 'working for a HK company, putting the wages through the HK business, maintaining a place of residency etc?

I'd probably return every few months to chill out.

Yes / No and why.. I know kids can go study and I have heard of work outside of HK counting towards residency if it's from a HK company but I need more information on this.

What visa would you have during the years you were in China? Investment?

For this scenario I would have an investment visa or RTL.

I would be surprised if you could convince immd that you were ordinarily resident in hk given how much time you spend outside of hk. They will know from their records when you go in and out. If it was short stints abroad on business that's one thing but personally I doubt you'd get it.

    Why not call and ask?

When you apply for pr you need to supply the total time you where out of HongKong with reasons .location of employer employment . Nice thought to get pr but you better plan very carefully as it would be easy for the case officer to refuse it as is .

ImmD will see your immigration movements and will know you have never set foot in HK over the years. Hard to convince them that your domicile is HK if you have never spent any time here.
