Reading from other posts, some people say that they were ok without knowing cantonese, some people were asked some basic cantonese.

To build of that... I can speak mandarin but not cantonese...will that be ok if it comes to the interview?

Most immigration officer will speak in english to you so no need to worry if you cant speak chinese.

I tried to apply for HK passport but was unsuccessful as they want my father (HK born) as a chinese citizen at the time of my birth but he changed to UK citizten 7 years after arriving in the UK. They didnt care if he has HK passport and HKID card

    Help on hong kong passport

    All
    Need urgent help here please
I have received naturalization acceptance by hong kong authorities and currently waiting fot my renunciation to complete by my home country. I would like to understand the steps and timing after i get hold on the renunciation certificate by my home country :

    1) processing time to get naturalization certificate as chinese national after aubmittjng the renunciation certificate

    2) steps and process time to get hold kn hong kong passport.

Timing is critical for me as i have some urgent travels lined up (within next 30days)
    Thanks

    1) This stage is quite quick (more or less immediate), as I recall from a gweilo friend who did it recently.

    2) From Application for HKSAR Passport | Immigration Department

The target is 10 working days.

So I think you should be OK, but don't hang around between each stage.

Getting the permit thing to go to China takes a very long time, by the way, so don't plan any travel there for the next 6 months at least!

(EDIT - weird graphic for the link to ImmD!)

Do you recon if therr is anyother step in between ? Is it possible to checm with your freind on the process time hkg authorities take from the point of submitting renounciation certificates to obtaining hkg passport !

My friend tells me, from memory because he's on the road and doesn't have the dates to hand, that it took about 4 weeks from handing the (in his case) British renunciation certificate to ImmD to having the HKSAR passport in his hand.

My guess, dealing with ImmD in various ways over the years, is that if you alert them to your urgent travel plans then they will do whatever is reasonably possible to help you, (So long as you ask in a polite and courteous manner.)

    Hope that helps.

    thanks for the help
I understood three star ID is not mendatory to obtain hkg passport. I know will need new ID to get china access card but havent heard that it is needed for passport as well. Let me know if this is correct understanding

    Thanks

Once you get your surrender certificate you go and naturalize as a Chinese citizen. They make you take an oath and you get a certificate. Then you go change your ID Card. (Can be done same day if they accept walk in). Then apply for the passport. You will get your passport in about a week or two.

The tricky part after this though is applying for the home permit to travel to China. That can take months sometimes. If you need to go to China while in the process of your application they do however issue single entry permits but they can be pricey.
