It is best to make online appointment unless you want to go to immigration before it opens to stand in line for the daily quota. for new borns you will have to apply HK ID card + HK SAR passport at the sametime.

I would suggest dropping or sending the application by post, then collect the passport in person (ie with baby). There should be little wait for collection, and no appointment is needed.

Thank you. For dropping the application, can I do it at Immigration Department directly, as I would be there tomorrow to register the birth certificate?

Probably. Best to go to the ImmD website and check, as there are a few forms you need to fill in for first time applicants.
