Getting a work visa for company new to hong kong

    Hi There,

I am UK citizen who is moving to Hong Kong in August with my partner who has a job in HK. We are not married so I'll be going over on a tourist visa initially.
A large company here in the UK has just offered me a job over there for six months but they don't yet have an office in hong kong (I would be starting it off for them). Can anyone advise on what steps I would need to take in order to be able to work over there?

The options which may or may not be possible and I would like advice on are

    1. Get them to employ me in the UK and then transfer me over to HK for a set period of time.
    2. Get them to set up a branch of their company in Hong Kong and then employ me through that.
    3. Get a work visa for China (where they do have offices) - does this allow me to enter and work in China?

Any help much appreciated, fee free to point me in the direction of any good immigration lawyers that could help!

    Thanks

No need to pay for immigration lawyers. Free advice here: http://www.investhk.gov.hk/index.html

China and HK are separate in terms of immigration, so forget number 3.

    3) If you get a work visa for China, you can work in that particular office, you cannot work in Hong Kong.
    2) Starting a branch in HK: Feasible, if the company has a good business plan and is willing to hire few locals. Contact Invest HK ( A Government Agency)
    1) If they hire you in U K, and send you to Hong Kong, you cannot legally work, until you receive your work visa.

Get them to employ you in UK first. Arrive and help them set up the company. You can't work but you can have meetings etc. You don't need to employ any locals to get a visa but it would help if you did. Invest HK will help a lot. Lawyers are a complete waste of time and may delay you. You don't even need them to set up the company.
