    An application for admission of a dependant may be favourably considered if:
    there is reasonable proof of a genuine relationship between the applicant and the sponsor;
    there is no known record to the detriment of the applicant; and
    the sponsor is able to support the dependant's living at a standard well above the subsistence level and provide him/her with suitable accommodation in the HKSAR.
    Basically, provide the wedding certificate, lots of older pictures of when you were dating in the past before wedding, salary statment, rental agreement, work contract etc, give as much information/evidence as possible, that is what my friend did.

    For my husband, all we have ever provided is proof of marriage, proof of my job and income and filled in all the forms. I doubt it hurts to provide additional information if the marriage is new, but I don't think they are going to question whether a marriage between Europeans is genuine, unlike the view on South Asian nationalities.

    I just went through the process of applying for dependant visa (currently in UK with my wife who is from HK). It took exactly 6 weeks from confirmation of receipt of application to being approved.

    We provided wedding certificate (only married a month before sending application) photos showing genuine relationship (a link to Facebook would be easier!!) her bank statements showing savings in HK, proof that we have accommodation in HK and then a covering letter just to tie everything together.

    The more information you provide at the start, the less questions they are likely to ask and the quicker the application will go through.

    Good luck!!

    Hello, I'm also applying for the dependent visa, I'm using an agent to handle it but not sure is it the right decision.. anyway, I have given our marriage cert., rental agreement, few photos, latest 3 months bank statement & rental receipts, to fill a form (ID997), and my identity proof. It took me 5 weeks (normally 2-4 weeks) to just have the acknowledgement from the immigration. after that, they ask me to fill again a form ID520, it's about both of our family member.. anyone need this??

    If anyone know that after the acknowledgement, can you check the progress online? I think you can check it when u r apply for working visa, but what about dependent visa? Cos I ask my agent and she said hk does not have online platform for their application process.. is it true? so there is no way I can check it myself?

    Agents are a complete waste of time and money at best. At worst they slow the process down. I speak from experience - when I moved here my company forced us all to use an agent and it was a nightmare. Never again.
