Place of birth and whether they have the right to reside in HK.

When you register the babies birth, you will have been given a form ID235b which gives the baby right to reside in HK for the same amount of time as is remaining on the parents visa.

This is the form you take when converting it into a visa sticker that is put into you childs passport.

HK Immigration can check your child's eligibility from the airport. Takes two or three minutes.

So why not just show the Id235B?

It takes less than a month to get a HKID and baby passport (you apply for both at the same time). If you apply on Monday, you will get it around the 15th of next month.

You need a passport to travel. You can't travel on an ID235b alone.

If your child is eligible to reside in HK, all you need to show is their passport. I've done it twice, with two different children. Once by accident (visa was in other passport, left in HK), once on purpose (traveled before converting id235b to dependent sticker).

On both occasions passport alone was enough. No need to show id235b nor birth certificate. No harm to take them if you want though.

Ok, that's what I waa thinking - either they'll accept a passport without a visa in it or they won't. A birth cert isn't going to make any difference.

I think the suggestion was to return to HK on the UK Passport, and show the HK Birth Cert as proof of entitlement to stay in HK. But yeah, if the baby if entitled to a HK passport I would be applying for one as a matter of course.

children under 12 yrs of age may apply hk id without picture, but its OPTIONAL.
when we were at immigration they wouldn't let me apply for an HK ID for my son (3 y.o. - 2 at the time, IIRC.) I went to get them for both of us. I got mine, but like I said, they wouldn't let me apply for one for my son, even though I asked them.
I haven't looked at the laws, but that was what I experienced with the immigration office in FoTan.

    yes he is.
i apply him the british one first becoz me n wife both are uk immigrant. as im not confidence whether my son who born in hk will entitle the uk passport at that time, plus uk immigrantion law change often.

btw, what is the relationship with the uk passport holder and the uk citizenship. or does the uk passport holder must be a uk citizen.

Yes you can definitely get one - we applied for and got one soon after my daughter was born. But as mentioned before it's without a picture.
