Hat einer der Ehegatten eine ausländische Staatsangehörigkeit oder mehrere Staatsangehörigkeiten, können die Ehegatten in Ausübung ihres Selbstbestimmungsrechtes ihre künftig zu führenden Namen auch nach dem Recht des Staates wählen, dem der ausländische Ehegatte angehört (Art. 10 Abs. 2 Nr. 1 EGBGB, Art. 2 Abs. 1 GG). Hierdurch wird ausländisches Namensrecht maßgeblich. Bei Eheschließung im Ausland genügt eine Erklärung gegenüber dem zuständigen ausländischen Standesbeamten, sofern das Ortsrecht dieselben Wahlmöglichkeiten wie das deutsche zulässt. Auch ausländische Doppelnamen können zum Ehenamen bestimmt werden.[10] Ein geschiedener oder verwitweter Ehegatte behält den Ehenamen, kann jedoch seinen Geburtsnamen (oder den vor der Ehe geführten Namen) wieder annehmen oder voranstellen oder anhängen.

I know some people who have both names. For some situations (and some documents) they use their husbands name; but on others (like their passport) they have a different name. In fact, this one person I know, I had no idea her "official", i.e. passport name, was different from the name I have known for by for years and which is on her ID card, job title, email, etc etc.

So it may be possible to just leave the Germans to their own devices, changes everything else here in HK and just live with it.

Katherine that's a good suggestion. But can one get name changed on HKID without changing in passport?
