    Holder of working visa - Getting Married in HK with my Filipino fiancé

    Hello guys,

    I'm holder of a working visa here in HK, I've been working here 2 months and planning to get married soon with my long-term fiancé. She is from Philippines and we were together since long time before I came to HK.

    I already called the immigration department and the marriage registry and apparently there's no problem if she comes to see me for tourism and during the holidays we get married.

    The next step will be applying for a dependent visa for her. My question is:

    - How long will it take her to get the dependent visa? I've read around that the best would be to prove that our relationship is genuine (which is the case) when we will apply for the dependent visa.

    - In your opinion, will it be granted?

    In this moment the documents I've got available:

    - My work contract proving a good expat salary that would be enough to support both of us;
    - A bank account;
    - A house contract with official receipts of the the agency for the monthly rents;
    - An HK Id card;

    I can prove pictures on facebook of last year when I was in Phil with her, holidays, whatsapp, messenger since 1,5 years etc

    We wouldn't like to get married and then suddenly for some reasons she can not come to join me and work in HK. Would you share your experience with me?

    if you have all the proof and have enough income to support her you'll be FINE, approval should take less than a month for your case.

    I see ok thanks Wtbhotia,

    btw I've read some posts of people that have been waiting for 3/4 months and still no answer. Why in your opinion?

    Is is quickly for people that are residents with a working visa then permanent residents?

    1. Depends on what passport your holding and the color of your skin (Unfortunately)
    2. Monthly salary (can you afford to look after your spouse)

    Most people you hear of waiting for 3 months and some even a YEAR are mainly South Asians or South East Asians who dont earn the unwritten rule of at least 20K up per month and who will get very scrutinized to see if the relationship is real or not. Majority are Permanent residents trying to bring their wives to HK as dependant.

    You are on a work visa which means you will/should bugger off once your done with HK and your spouse will leave with you

    read this recent thread. White Guy on work visa married Filipino GF, got dependent visa approved in less than 1 month so if you have all your documents and good salary, should be very easy for you also.

    Ok I will read it thanks. I'm European, my salary is far more then 20k and yes we planning to leave HK after my working visa expires. So the fact that she's holder of a Philippines passport would not penalize the approval of the visa right?

    Yeah they do look more at certain passports. That is one of those red flag items. Be prepared to have lots of photos showing a happy relationship.

    I see MandM, thanks.

    concerning the pictures, shall I print them and leave to the immigration officer with the papers, or I have to show them on the telephone/tablet? And also, there is no date on the pics, unless they view them on the tablet and in the settings there's the date of the creation which is from last year the eldest we have...

    Any other documents I should have to show them?

    You will be fine (I married a Filipina in HK while she was here on a tourist visa). I gave them undated photos and they never questioned that.
