Time to apply for British passport for Hk born baby

I am a HK citizen and my husband was born and raised in the UK. Our baby will be born in Nov and i am thinking to have it in HK. Anyone has experience how long to get the UK passport application proceed for i apply online in HK?
Should we apply the HKSAR passport and British passpirt at the same time for easiest way to get both?

British passport will take u 3 to 4 weeks. HKSAR passport around the same time. U can do both same time. For the HK one u need to apply id card at the same time. Valid for 5 years only. No photo.

    Thank you wtbhotia.

What is the use of the no photo hkid card? I remember when i was young, i had a '回港證'. Does my baby need to get that as well?

Depends if you plan to take your kid to China, if no, don't apply

3-4 weeks is the official timeframe they give but from experience I would allow at least 2 months before booking anything. I got my baby son one this spring and it took 10 weeks, and I'm not alone on that.

They have sorted the majority of the chaos from last year but they are still far from being efficient.

Not sure about UK, but for Australia a baby born overseas to Australian parent would first need to apply for a 'citizenship by descent' before being allowed to apply for a passport. Wouldn't similar logic also apply here?

No, if either parent was born in the UK and is a British citizen then the child is automatically granted citizenship.

First passports seem to take longer than renewals.

I got my first adult passport from the UK in two weeks, last month (July). I was very surprised at the speed as last year friends who naturalized were waiting months.
