HK Nationality & US Green Card

Happy New Year to all of you and thanks in advance for any constructive input.

My co-worker has just been approved for HK Naturalization and has been asked to submit the documents proving that he has renounced his current Citizenship before they can issue him with a "Certificate of Naturalization".

He is a "Indian" national but has a permanent US Green card for over 20 years. He travels to and from the US for work every 6 weeks using his Indian passport and Green Card with no hassle. He also confirmed that he has maintained his US residence by making 2-3 trips a year.

The question is: If he decides to take up a HKSAR passport, is his Green Card still valid or is it locked to his Indian Passport? Would he have to reapply for US residence? Is anyone familiar with how this works?

I think it only applies to the passport. He just gives up his Indian passport to get the HK one. Someone else can comment on their thoughts too.

He should probably notify USCIS somehow, but the short answer is that his green card remains valid after his change of nationality.

Will changing nationality affect my green card status

His green card is valid: But does he understand that he has to declare his world income and pay tax in USA?

He must have been doing that for the 20 years he's had a green card with an Indian passport.

Yes he files his taxes and everything is in order. He simply wants t give up his Indian passport for a HK one and the next step is to get naturalized in the US by fulfilling his 18/24 months stay.
