Marriage of convenience - just to get a visa.

Of course. Lots of people get married in order to get entry into a wealthy and safe country. If the government was very lax, it could even turn into a business. If your marriage is legit in the traditional sense, then you have nothing to worry about.

So people just marry anyone that has a visa instead marrying someone they're truly in love with? That's crazy!

Happens in many, many countries when people are desperate to leave their own.

In Hong Kong Immigration has a specialist team that follows up on visa applicants after arrive if they are concerned that the marriage is fraudulent.

I understand then why they are so strict. We didn't initially provide very convincing evidence. Hopefully our 2nd submission provides enough! We added tons of pics and communication proof along with everything else they asked for.

Yes, tons of people get married and in significant numbers, its not because they are in love.
Sometimes its for convenience, sometimes its for money and sometimes its to get a visa.

Going rate to marry a Permanent HK resident last I heard was typically around 60-100 K mark, paid in installments after each visa approval until the 7 years mark (which entitles the dependant to get Permanent resident status) then get divorced after LOL
