Unhappy HKID FOR DEPENDENT VISA HOLDER

    Hi Friends,

My wife has the dependent visa valid till June (because my work permits valid till June).

I tried to get HKID but immigration person rejects my application because right now she has less than 180 days valid visa.

I will surely extend my work visa for more 11 months and so my wife dependent visa will also extend.

But I want to HKID of my wife just now.

Immigration guy on government office told me to provide the letter by my company for ensuring that company will extend my visa for sure then may be immigration consider my case but when I asked about the letter by calling immigration then customer service told me immigration will not accept any letter.

Now, I confuse what to do to get my wife HKID ASAP.

    Please advice.

    Thanks in advance

Apply for her ID card when you have extended your visa.

Under Cap. 177A, Reg 25, your wife could seek permission from the Commissioner (Director of Immigration) to get an ID card. Don't know the process but the Registration of Persons Regulations does allow for it.

My understanding was that anyone staying in HK for more than 3 months has the right to apply for a HK ID card. As her visa is valid until June, she should be able to get one. Maybe go again and try another officer.

Please can you show where this 3-month "right" can be found?

It's not a right but it is a legal requirement.
