US Citizenship Application

    US Citizenship Application

I was born in HK in the 70s, parents are both Chinese and have a HK Permanent ID card, does this make me a HK citizen?

Moved to UK when I was young and got my British Citizenship. I now have a Green Card and live in the US. If I decide to apply for US citizenship do I need to formally renounce my HK citizenship?

    Thanks!

Person of Chinese race born in HK is automatically a Hong Kong permanent resident and Chinese citizen / national, regardless of whether you hold a HKSAR passport. This is even applied retroactively for those born before the handover. But OP does not need to renounce his Chinese or British citizenship when taking up US citizenship. Dual nationality is allowed in his case.

What kma88 means China ignores his other nationalities and solely regards him as a Chinese national.

OP, yes, according to,Chinese nationality law you are a Chinse national.
In case you want a HK ID card or passport you will have to go through a verification process using or ROP145

I wanted dual with US and UK but worried my application might flag my country of birth being Hong Kong. If I don't renounce then won't I be citizen with 3 countries?

Why would this be a problem? There are lots of HK-born US citizens.

Yes, you would be a citizen of all three countries. And why are you concerned about this?

US allows dual but not triple.

Aiya, allowing "dual citizenship" means multiple citizenship is allowed, not literally two.

Austin Powers is a citizen of the UK (by descent), Canada (by birth) and USA (by naturalization) !
