    Visa options for an Internship

    Hi,

I am currently living in Hong Kong. I am studying and I hold a student visa until May 2018. I am a British National and I’ve been here since August 2017.

I am hoping to do an internship and I have had little help from the company I am involved with. My internship would be in May, June and July. Ending July 31st.

What visa should I apply for over the dates I don’t have one?

My options seem to be: attempt to extend study visa (arguing internship is related to my course which it loosely is), a training visa or some sort of work visa.

Which visa will be most likely to succeed?

Thank you so much if anyone can provide help in advance, the local immigration doesn’t seem to be easy to call up and ask!

What have you been studying? Does your visa expire because you graduated? With an undergrad? Masters? PhD?

Before you call Immd, consider talking to your school's international office.

Talk to them about the IANG scheme.. (click on the eligibility criteria).

If the above doesn't work you could consider applying for a working holiday visa, if you're under 30. We've had interns do this before.

    Thanks for your replies guys.

I am going to do a WHV.

Although I am having issues with insurance. Will travel insurance cover me?

    Thanks,
    Dom

You should speak to your insurer and find out. Normal travel insurance usually has a trip length limit - Gap Year insurance could be the way forward.
