    Green Card for Spouse

    anyone has experience with applying US green card for spouse? how long does it take now and would it expire if spouse stays and works in HK? thanks. want to make it easier for job search in the states.

    She needs to enter the US every 6 months to maintain it. Lately if they notice a pattern of multiple 6 month entries, they can revoke the GC. Processing takes 6-18 months depending on the nationality of the applicant.

    oh that sucks. enter only or have to live there for half a year? guess we will apply only after we have decided to go back then.

    It took me almost 1.5 years, but that's because I intentionally delayed it almost every step of the way. In general it should just take several months at most. After you get your visa, you need to land in the US before your physical exam result expires (which is less than 6 months, your physical is before the visa).

    She needs to make an entry every 180 days and stay for a couple of days or a week .. This can eventually pose a problem if they (Immigration) notice it to be a pattern. At some point in time she will get sent in for a secondary inspection on arrival and that's when the problems begin .

    Indeed.

    Encouraging people to formally give up the GC rather than enjoy the ongoing privilege of paying tax. Oh well....
