What he meant to say was that if your daughter in law gives birth in the UK, then the kid will be British.

The next question is will your daughter in law be allowed to get into the UK to give birth?

    True.
If not born in the UK then I understand that by living in the UK later down the line British citizenship can also be achieved considering my son is has the same rights as a full British citizen apart from passing on citizenship to his child if born abroad.
It's good to know what options are available if needed.

Drop the folks at British Connections a line and save yourself from all the second guessing.

Pay them for a couple of hours worth of consultancy or whatever their charges are - heard nothing but good things about them.

I can trace my family history in UK back to the 1500's,just seems a bit unfair that British citizenship is lost because I had my son in HK. Guess, rules are rules

UK immigration and fairness, reasonableness - does not compute.

Its not about you - its about *him*
He (by being born outside) is not a "full" citizen.
    Canada does the same thing.

I have 3 kids who are dual British and Canadian (neither full) - and they will face this dilemma when they get older, when ready to give birth.
