Getting a Shenzen visa for UK passport holder

I'm a UK passport holder and have to go to Shenzen for one day next week. Does anybody know if I can just get a Shenzen visa at the Lo Wu boarder crossing? Has anybody done it recently. I don't really want the bother of applying for a China visa for my passport, but I worry about turning up at Lo Wu on the day and not being able to get one. The rules seem to keep changing, as far as I can make out.

last time for me was during 2016, i used the official government visa issuing office in lowu, (not CTS, apparently cost HK$600 and takes 3 hours) which takes 10 mins and cost RMB306

here is the instructions how to walk to the official government visa issuing office

I believe the fee for UK passport holders is RMB 304

Note that you can't get the visa at Lok Ma Chau
