Spouse / Child Dependent Visa

Hello:

I am in the process of applying my wife / son dependent visa. I submitted both application end of Oct. Got an letter for additional info and I mailed all the necessary info back to them. As of today, beside the acknowledgement letter. I have not hear anything from ImmD. I don't mind the wait. The problem is that my wife / son came in as a tourist and both of their visa is expiring at the beginning of Feb. Can I apply extension for both of them?

Both of them are holding US passport.
