    All peoples live well in Brunei, so it is difficult to have much sympathy for our friend.

    To be fair to the author, the article has little to do with the welfare in Brunei. It has more to do with the issue of having to be stateless.

    Surely he is isn't stateless but a Chinese citizen who has just never bothered getting the passport.

    Perhaps he doesn’t want a Chinese passport. Millions don’t either.

    Anyway, he just has to go to Europe, claim he is gay and he will get asylum and a quick passport.

    Or may be he just wants his birthplace to recognize he is a citizen?

    FYI Kinmen, where his grandfather was from, is an island in Fijian province but under Taiwanese control. So he should really get a Taiwanese passport.

    That is not the way things work outside of the US and Canada. I don't think the fault here lies with Brunei.

    Is there route to get naturalized as a citizen after you obtaining PR status if you meet the requirements?
