Ah looks like you have the same issue as someone on the other thread. You probably need to go through the hksar passport application to have a definitive answer as to whether you are a Chinese national. Then you'll know if you should get a HRP to enter the mainland from China Travel Service, or a visa from the visa application centre.
You probably have ***AO on your hkid which was first registered way back before the handover. The problem is that *** means Chinese national, but the definition of Chinese national had changed. Right now it is based on the PRC nationality law. Before the handover it just means one whos is ethnic Chinese. So your hkid is inconclusive as far as Chinese nationality is concerned.
