    Expired HK ID

I am a permanent HK resident and just trying to get a helper visa processed. The immigration officer says my HK ID is expired and I should have applied for a new one in 2019. I thought permanent HK ID cards are valid forever until it’s my year’s turn for the smart identity card (which is 2021)

    What am I missing?

Edit: as always no explanation from the officer as to why he thinks I need a new HK ID card

Have never heard of PR ID cards "expiring"... unless you missed your year group renewal in 2019.

Complete bullshit. ID remains valid. Only times you change are from kid to adult, non permanent to permanent, or when the government issues new ones. There are no expiry dates.

Might want to drop them an email - they're generally quite precise if you give them the required info including ID number and a contact info.
