Applying for work sponsor as a dependant after divorce

I hope this is the right place to ask this question.

My wife and I(Dependant) might be getting a divorce. What I've come to know is that, even after the divorce, I can still stay in Hong Kong until my visa expires (3 years). After this, I will have to get some sort of work visa to be able to stay in Hong Kong.

What I need to know is what type of work visa can I/ should I apply for? Is there only one type of work visa for me who is already in Honk Kong and on a dependant visa that will also help me continue my stay in Hong Kong? Are there certian requirements or criteria that has to be met? e.g. education.

    Much help appreciated.

so before your visa expires, since you are getting divorced and you no longer will be able to get a renewal for dependent visa, in order to stay in HK you will need to find a Job that is willing to sponsor you to get a work visa. You yourself cannot apply for a work visa to stay in HK.

The company will have to meet certain requirements for HK Immigration to approve a work visa for you:

    1. The job cannot be done by a local
    2. The company tried hiring locally
    3. Salary has to be in excess of 20K, this is unofficial but some have managed to get visa with 15K but very rare.

Will my education background play a role in this process? Does the job need to be related to my previous studies?

Depends on the job / the job title / salary, They require degree holder but not everyone has one, some can rely on years and years of job experience to be approved for a work visa.

Your options are find a job, remarry or leave. Last one is the most realistic so would focus on that.

No. Not really. If you pay tax, do not commit any crime here then you can apply for visa extension as self sponsored person. You have to apply before the expiry of your current visa. You can carry on your work even after the expiry of your current visa while your application is in process. If approved they will grant you one year's visa not 3 years. After seven years you can apply for unconditional stay or PR if you declare to take HK as a permanent place of residence.

    hi narayani3353,

I’m assuming that is is related to the Business investment visa?

Or maybe QMAS? I don't think that self-sponsorship for a random employee is a thing...

How long have you been in HK
How many more years to reach the 7 years mark so you can apply to be come a Permanent Resident.
