Quit job and travel back to HK

Hi! Does anyone know if once I terminated “resident - work visa”, travelled out of HK and want to return, would I be considered “traveller”?

In that case, won’t be allowed in now with current covid policy?

The “permission to stay” is until 2022 though does that mean I can travel in and out of hk freely and return as resident ?

why would you want to though, without a job? HK is a shit place to be right now. Still expensive, No freedom, lockdowns every other week, Big Brother's security law breathing down our necks......

I know a number of retired expats from Europe who have come back to HK for the winter (HK PRs) because it's going to be a lot safer and have a lot more freedom here this winter. I can't believe you think HK is bad comparatively.

You really are fed up with HK it seems. Perhaps it's time to relocate? Like not being rude but genuinely you really seem to hate it here now

We have been planning to relocate for months. But the place we were planning to move is "closed" now.

I was in the UK last week. Yes, re Covid, I would go there if I could but my work is in the Asian timezone. Europe is handling this pandemic better than Asia in my view. Not perfectly, but recognising the balances better

Not what I’m hearing from my friends in the UK who are parents. Schools closing regularly on short notice due to Covid cases which is a nightmare for working parents. If your child has symptoms they have to stay home for 2 weeks or get a test - which are tough to get right now. And it’s only October.

    Lol are you serious?!

In Asia the countries and how they're handling it has been used as examples of how to handle the pandemic - Korea, Singapore, HK and even Thailand with track & trace, contact tracing, universal testing.

What she means is more people have been infected so they are nearer herd immunity

UK did not handle it well initially but as I have said before my experience is that it is handled just aswell here now as Hong Kong is doing. In fact better in some aspects as we have more space. However, I am not in a large city and am not working. I also recognise that some sections of society here are not good at following rules which doesn't help contain infection, but personally I feel safe and am happy the 92 year old mother in law is safe too.

Where I think Hong Kong/Asia has lost the plot is the extreme attitude towards isolation and restriction on travel. Government are not as bothered about the negative effects on individuals mental health, jobs and the economy in general. If I was still stuck in Hong Kong with no hope of travel out on the horizon I think I would have cracked up by now.

I think the UK is more balanced in this regard.

Assuming the data coming out of a country is accurate, the only true statistic to believe are the Death figures.

If you look at the Deaths per 1M of population:-

    3. Belgium - 871 DEATHS / 1M Population
    4. Spain - 699 DEATHS / 1M Population
    7. Brazil - 697 DEATHS / 1M Population
    10. USA - 655 DEATHS / 1M Population
    12. UK - 627 DEATHS / 1M Population
    13. Italy - 597 DEATHS / 1M Population
    14. Sweden - 582 DEATHS / 1M Population
    18. France - 498 DEATHS / 1M Population
    22. Ireland - 367 DEATHS / 1M Population
    34. Canada - 253 DEATHS / 1M Population
    43. Portugal - 201 DEATHS / 1M Population

    64. Germany - 115 DEATHS / 1M Population

    110. Australia - 35 DEATHS / 1M Population

    141. HK - 14 DEATHS / 1M Population
    145. Japan - 13 DEATHS / 1M Population
    159. S. Korea - 8 DEATHS / 1M Population

    170. New Zealand - 5 DEATHS / 1M Population

    172. Singapore - 5 DEATHS / 1M Population
    189. Taiwan - 0.3 DEATHS / 1M Population

Based on death rates, I would say most developed European nations and USA are doing far worst than Asian countries.....
