Thank you all! Really good information here, really lays any worries to rest
What happened why it took about a month? My working visa also will be expired on December 25, 2020. My employer said they will to try to apply 1 and half month before the expiration date. I hope we will all get the approval of extension of working visa.
Think it is a grey area if you should be working during the period where your VISA expired till the renewal is approved. If you are not caught and nobody bothers to ask, you are safe. But my company warns me about similar issue and they told me if renewal is not completed i am not to work. Basically my company will not break any potential law.
What happened to those days when you could rock up at Immigration in Wanchai on the very last day your visa expired and they'd stick a new one in on the same day?
Coronavirus- they don't want people hanging around the building- they will chase you out even...
But when I did mine, my appointment to pick up the sticker was at least the same week...now it looks like they aren't even doing that. I must say that when I went in, the waiting area was crowded with all kinds of people seeking visas...not just work visas, looked like whole families looking to extend visas, everyone waiting, it was kind of a zoo...so they may be processing all these other requests (extensions on humanitarian grounds where extended family is staying with the one relative in HK so as not to go back to a coronavirus hotspot). Otherwise I can't think why it's taking so long to renew work visas...
