Dual Citizen US/HK, Should Use Which ID?

    Hi everyone

I'll be flying back to the US soon and I need to know whether I should use my US passport or HKID to leave? I was born in the US but my mother is Hong Kong Chinese so I got HK citizenship when I moved here, however, I don't hold a HK passport.

Don't know if this is relevant, but my flight will be one-way.

    Thanks

You should use your ID to leave.

Alright I'll do that, thanks. Could you also tell my why it would be a better idea to use my HKID?

Did you enter last time on your HKID or your US passport? If your US passport then I would say maybe exit on that so that all the stamps match up in case anyone looks. But if in doubt simply explain the situation to the Immigration officer on exit and do whatever he suggests.

I entered on my US passport. Would it be a good idea to ask a travel agent? Thanks

No - just have both ready at the airport, explain the situation to the Immigration officer and do what s/he suggests. Don't make this harder than it is!
