    Hmmm...normally they may ask you to justify any periods that require a deeper review by providing more supporting documents before the final decision. Guess your absence was a bit long so the officier just rejected and asked you to go through the appeal process.

    Hey Ricky, sorry to hear about that. It's probably not worth appealing because the law requires *continuous* visa validity for the whole seven-year period. The courts have said that's subject to a "de minimis" rule allowing small gaps (say a few days), but eight months is far beyond what would be considered "de minimis". Sorry to be the bearer of bad news ☹️
