Overstay IANG Visa by 20 days while working

I have beed under the IANG visa for 6 years now and should have renewed it 20 days ago and forgot to renew it. I am working fulltime on this Visa.

I have seen quiet a few threads on geoexpat about people on tourist or dependant visa that have overstayed but not as much information about Working Visa or IANG.

My plan is to go to the immigration tower, first thing tomorrow morning to report the situation, submit my visa extension and apoligise for overstaying.

Anyone here have been in the same situation? What are the possible consequences for me?

    Thanks!

I was also on IANG prior to getting my PR, and while my own visa did not expire..I somehow assumed that when I got mine renewed my wife's dependent visa would also be renewed. Which was wrong.

I don't remember the exact time, but I believe her visa had expired 4-5 weeks ago before we realised this. We went to ImmD the next day and the lady there said "cool story bro, but don't do it again" and stamped the extension.

I am assuming yours should be similar. As far as I am aware , IANG gives you almost PR privileges so I don't think it should be as much of an issue for ImmD like overstaying a visit visa.

Also we had Pak passports, which is no.2 from the bottom so if they didn't have an issue with us...unlikely that they will have with you

your issue might be you 'were working' during the 20 days.. A good way to reduce any potential liabilities would be to tell your company that you 'didn't' work for that 20days... I think immigration offenses usually get heavier if you were working when you don't have a visa.

I overstayed by about 3 weeks on my work visa after my first 3 year stint. I went to immigration and explained the situation, they werent too impressed but they will help you resolve it.

Dude, making incorrect statements to authorities, awesome recommendation indeed.
@OP - under no circumstances do this. Yes, the fact that you worked in this time might come with a fine/reprimand. Lying to ImmD - you'd certainly get caught, who TF randomly 'stops working' for 20 days just after their visa expires??? - gets you jail.

Excatly, by 'explained the situation' i mean i just told them i completely forgot to do it. I was working in a small firm, at the time, with no dedicated HR to help with these things. Just tell them the truth and there wont be any adverse consequences unless things have changed in recent years but with the recent exodus i think they would want to be pro-active to retain and attract people. It will be fine.

For those that do not understand sarcasm, @TheBrit is telling you to not compound your problems by lying.

Go to immigration, be apologetic, most certainly don't be cocky about it, it will be ok and don't do it again, that should be all.

People do forget things and immigration would rather go after someone who actually had it pre-planned than someone who just forgot and is apologetic.

and certainly dont lie, forgetting is one thing, lying is another.
