I hold an European passport and I would like to visit my wife's family in China during Easter.
Someone has recent experience in requesting a travel visa as a foreigner?

Yes, this is my question.

The travel agency I was contacting until 2019 I think has stopped business, they don't pick up the phone and don't reply Whatsapp messages. Maybe I will try a visit to their office.

I have non-Chinese friends who have visited the mainland recently. At the time it was direct family of mainlanders (spouses, kids and parents) only.

Yes you can travel to China, a helper friend recently went to China with her employer and will stay there for 3-4 months she said.

You need a business visa, which requires an invitation from a business in China.

They have not started issuing tourist visa yet. Might start issuing after march.

Tourist visas not granted yet but I was told business as well as visas to see direct family are allowed. You may need to search to see the exact documentation needed

Just get someone from your wife's family to issue you an invitation letter along with a copy of their Chinese ID card. You are eligible to apply for the Q2 visa.

If your wife still has a valid Chinese ID card, she can invite you too.
