Because it was a LEGAL REQUIREMENT to change it and if you don't (at some point) they will fine you. If you are stinking rich - no issue at all . The rest of us prefer not to have to pay fines.

What is there not to get?
You have been provided with website and schedule - which you already missed the deadline.
You have been informed that is there is a fine for not renewing the HKID card.

There's nothing more to provide to convince you need to take action?

I feel like this is when you are on a boat when everyone around you putting on lifejackets and you going around asking hey guys what's going on... the boat is still floating?

Exactly. As far as I could see, there was zero benefit in getting a new card. I got mine (at the time I was supposed to) because it was the law. Just like paying taxes! No benefit to me - but you have to do it

New HKID uses eye scanning for immigration. Now you just place the obverse of your card face down, then look at the camera. Previously, you used to put your card into the machine and place your finger. In the old system the card would wear down and my father's did in the end and he used the counter instead of the machine. Hopefully with the new system that won't be the case.

How many working days does it take to process the new HKID card from appointment to collection?

Actually the old HKID uses eye scanning too. Dont need to replace the HKID for this feature. I went through immigration, put old ID into the machine, look at camera (no need fingerprint).

I didn't see any official estimate.. my own was 7 working days, though later updated to avoid long waiting time to effectively 2 calendar months 😅

Finally got a booking on day 6. Basically you have 20 minutes. Once you get in, you need to refresh the page by going back and punching in the bottom page code, over and again. I went around 6 times till seeing available dates. Most dates are the next day.
