Home Return Permit renewal without HK Passport

I will be returning to HK for a few weeks and want to renew my HRP. However I do not have a Hong Kong passport (I left HK using a BNO to Australia as a child). I got the old pink version when I was a kid. My HKID also has ***AZ.

Is it possible to renew the old HRP without an HK Passport? or would I need to apply for one first?

If you don’t live on Chinese territory then you are not eligible for one.

You should apply for this in your home country and would most likely need a HK passport

Complete the following and see if you can book the appointment for HRP renewal.

    Just try!

But if you have a really old version of the HKPR, you might need to renew it before getting the Return Home card.

I presume he's got an Australian passport and he'd probably need to renounce his Australian citizenship and passport if he wants to get the HKSAR passport.

If you are Chinese according to Chinese nationality law then China does not recognize any other nationality. So they won’t ask you to renounce it.

My understanding is that if you were born chinese and there is no record of you having renounced chinese nationality l then even if you have another nationality you will not be requiired to renounce that nationality. That passport is treated as a travel document.

If you HAVE renounced it then obviously you cannot get a home return permit at all

Strictly, if you have been Chinese according to Chinese Nationality Law *since birth* then this applies. But if you have/had multiple other nationalities and renounced only one of them in order to naturalise as a Chinese citizen then a whole can of worms could be opened.
