Post Missed HKID Pick Up Date

    Hello,

I am currently not in Hong Kong and I authorized someone to pick up my new HKID, but they needed my temp ID for the pick up. So, I mailed it, but US customs and border delayed it for over a month and we missed the pick up date.

    Is my HKID forfeited?
How should I go about getting my new HKID?

    Thanks in advance.

Get it once you return to Hong Kong

Why would US customs even be aware of the content of a single sheet of paper being sent in the mail?

They'll happily delay it even without knowing the contents of the item.

I can still pick it up even after the pick up date they gave me? Or do I have to reapply for a new HKID?

    I don’t know.

I went to USPS to inquire about my mail and the guy working there said he mailed a birthday card overseas and it got delayed for 3 months.

Surely you would send such an important document by courier, not ordinary mail?

It didn’t even cross my mind. Good to know for next time.

You don't need temporary ID to pick up for someone else
