HZMB application, anyone here who has done it?

I am looking through the official guidelines. I have been given that 72 hour window later this month. My car is older so it requires MOT every year. It is still valid for another 5 months. I asked a HK MOT office and they say no need to get a new HK MOT when mine is still valid.

Then I need the inspection for the mainland side of the permit, which I believe takes place at one of two locations in Hong Kong. I am not sure if I can do this already now, or I have to wait until my application window starts. I would really like to get as much done as I can, earlier, in case there are any hiccups. My window is Thursday to Saturday, and from Friday evening I will have to leave HK for a few days so I need to have any local physical actions done by then. I can do online stuff Saturday, from outside of HK, but I can't take my car somewhere, or go and sign paperwork.

There is a great guide for getting the Mainland Travel Permit, listing all the steps in order, the gotchas and such. I am looking for something similar for the HZMB Northbound permit. Maybe there is one in Chinese?

I have started a thread here but so far, no updates of use

The inspection only can be done when the application is being processed.

I talked to my local mechanic. I found he also has the HZMB permit. He showed me two near identical 7-seater vans. One is quite original in the styling, the other one has a lot of custom gear on it.

The China inspection is apparently nothing about the technical state of the car, but only whether or not the car has been modified. Spoilers, lights, fenders, rims ... if it doesn't look standard then this inspection might be failed.

I am mainly concerned, then, what date I can book, as I won't be in HK on day 3 of my 72 hour window.

After reading the past few pages of positive updates I made appointment on Jan 22 to apply for license.

    Few questions:

What do I need to bring? HKID, MTP, registration QR...Anything else? Do I need a mainland address? Hk address proof?

Physical and photo I believe can all be done on the spot. I read there is a 123app I might need to do something?

How much of a struggle will it be if I speak only a little mando but fluent in canto? Thinking if I need to bring a friend.

Thanks. Sry if these questions were already answered.

Make sure the appointment relates to the HK exam-free driving licence application. On the day you will be doing the medical test + photo taking in the booth. There will be some numbers read out in Mandarin that you'd need to be able to identify.

As for documentation, HKID, MTP, HK Driving licence shall suffice. I had a HK address proof and passport with me but never had to produce it. If everything goes well you'd get your licence within 1.5 hour.

FYI i see a few companies now offering services to help acquire the China drivers license using MTP. They previously only did it for the RHP so seems like using the MTP is definitely a reality.

Hey Maggie, thanks for the heads up. Will 1 to 10 suffice? and knowledge of how to put them together for the other numbers? eg. 60 is 6,10 etc. Could you give me an example?

Sounds funny but 91 in French is 4*20+11 - so its not always a universal rule to combine numbers logically

    Kind regards,

    Kind regards,
It is just 3 single digits, in mandarin, 0 to 9. Remember to press ENTER or PROCEED after you type in the numbers. I got it i the third attempt (because the first two times, I did not know I had to press that button, and it times out after like ... 10-15 seconds or so)

It is all automated. There is some speech but the most challenging for me (non-chinese and with very limited cantonese and mandarin skills) was that the most information is on the screen. If you can read chinese, whether simplified or traditional, that should be a great help.

You are not allowed to have anyone with you inside that booth, and you are not allowed to use your phone. I would have used it to translate what is on the screen.

I made it, eventually, but for those who don't know the numbers in mandarin, better learn 0-9.

No, there is no quattre vingt onze in there ... and the "hearing test" is just to indicate where the sound is coming from, the left or the right speaker in the booth. Then some colorblind tests, where you have to tap the symbol or number on the screen.
