I tried doing the ETC registration, there's a person at lat 15/16,they tell you to drive 10 min away to the etc centre. Once we arrived there they said MTP doesn't work. Having my spouse register didnt work, since I'm the only registered driver for the car in china
Hmm that is not true though I had my wife who is a HRP holder registering the ETC account and it worked. I however didnt activate the ETC device properly and still paid at the manual toll booth but have since redone the activation steps in the ETC mobile app and hopefully it will go through next time.

For me it was 3 weeks from the point I was confirmed to have been drawn from the ballot to eventually receiving the ZMB permit. I was acting promptly in every steps of the process.

When I did my CN drivers license, I already had my MTP, obviously, as it is a requirement. Since I could not yet drive to China, I took a bus to Shenzhen port, and from there a DiDi to the traffic office for the drivers license. The first time I passed into China using my MTP, was this route, and after the CN immigration, I asked about fingerprints and such. They directed me to a tiny office not far away, a small line of "shroff type" windows.

I presented my MTP, and was asked for fingerprints and such.

Since then, every entry and exit I have used the MTP in the same automated lines the locals do.

If you mean something related to the car or HZMB specifically, then I have not done any further registration. Maybe I DO need to do something? Maybe that is why the 5-step machine at the bridge failed, and they had to process me manually? I don't know, because the voice was speaking too fast for me to understand it and I was not well enough prepared for it. Next time I go, I will be more prepared and hope for the machine to work.

If not, then I will see if there is something I need to register in Zhuhai.

For crossing a bridge from Hong Kong, China, to Zhuhai, China, I must say they have every bureaucratic angle covered. I don't know what other procedure, requirement, attestation or checking they could come up with. You can drive from Alaska to Albuquerque, or Bodø to Barcelona, with just a passport (for some, with a visa) and international car insurance. But from China to China, it takes this massive amount of approvals, which never seem to end
Hmm that is odd, presumably you had already set up the biometrics for your MTP before applying for Northbound driving? I set mine up in Futian in August as soon as the MTP was issued and since then I had no problem using the E channels in Liantang, Futian, Luohu or Shenzhen Bay. Zhuhai car lane was also fine for me (think Fanzy initially had issues but it has probably since been resolved). Either way glad it was sorted.

Interesting. ETC office was adamant that the MRP wouldn't work and didn't accept my wife to register with HRP, since the car is under my name and I'm the designated driver.

Thank you. My application period was about 10 days after the ballot notification date so I won't be so lucky.

I have submitted the application today. Do you have any advice on what to get ready?

From the time you submitted the application (during the date given) to the time you received notification to get your car checked in HK, upload documents to mainland system, how long did that take?

This means you are going through the preliminary approval in HK and China. I'd suggest to scan documents such as vehicle registration, MOT certificate (can't remember if this was required), front and back of your HK driving licence, front and back of your China driving licence, the paperpart recording penalty points. Have them scanned as JPEG images if you can.

On a separate note, if you have an insurance car agent handy for quotation and buy the insurance as soon as you have completed the car inspection.

As for the uploading, on the mainland system I only remember uploading the JPEG images of the GBA compulsory car insurance. From vague recollection the gap between car inspection to receiving the ZMB permit was around 1 to 1.5 week.

    3. Thanks - is it the HK side that informs you of the car inspection or mainland side? Does one need to make appointment and pay a fee?

    Thank you very much!

Will be the China side. Once you done your initial documents upload, HK TD will pass the information to China. Once China completes their preliminary check you will get SMS text advising you to do the car inspection and upload insurance document.

Yes you will need to make an appointment for the car inspection and show the QR code at the inspection center. You will pay $800 ($400 for the inspection $400 for the card reader installation).
