HSR return tickets to Futian for the cheapest class is HK$150
word. I went to SZ last week for around 7 hours. Cost was essentially the same as HK after commute cost. Food and massage was slightly cheaper than hk (marginally).
but the additional costs I factored in: 88 for 1 day roaming, 150 commute to/from home to boarder, taxi fare inside SZ.
Not to mention the time you waste commuting, going through immigration. 2 hours each way...
HELLA not worth it in my views. Unless you are going to China for activities that cannot be found in HK (ie. golf).
Assuming you mean mobile data, 3HK has a pretty good thing where you can get 512MB for a day for 10HKD, which is pretty decent assuming you mostly need the data for navigation / payments.
With HKID + MTP I'd think it'd be a cakewalk? It's usually the foreigner passport line which is painfully slow.
There is also the option to get a globalsim1yr 10gb data card(China mobile network), no registration needed, for 100Hkd. this assumes your not going to be watching YouTube or downloading stuff. Once the data to used up you throw away the card, cheaper to buy a new card than top up.
Apparently the echannel registration is only 8am until 6pm or something like that. Can't go after work to register at non peak time unfortunately.
It’s funny you use taxi to go around Shenzhen considering that public transport is super convenient and cheap there.
Did my Fingerprint registration at West Kowloon this Saturday.
The counter is AFTER HK immigration but BEFORE China immigration. Basically after Duty-Free go to the extreme left and there will be a counter. It is only open from 0800-1800, so you need to time it well. There were only 3 people ahead of me and it took like less than 10 minutes including the queue.
This is what the registration area looks like:
After registration, I still had to use the "Special Lane" at the foreigner section of HSR Immigration. I believe I was allowed to skip the passport holders (which have their own lane), but they were trying to prematurely queue in the Special Lane so that was a bit of an awkward conversation.
Coming back the e-channel worked fine. Not sure if it will work via MTR crossing (Lo Wu / Lok Ma Chau) or other immigration points (e.g. via Vietnam land border, Airports or Heihe ferry terminal).
