Went via SZ Bay this afternoon and returned a few hours later. Went upstairs immediately to do the fingerprint registration and was told the 2 day thing which I didn't really believe. Tried the auto gate on the way out and it worked totally fine. Feels like there may be some training issues with the border staff as others have commented.

After clearing custom went left and upstairs to 2F
Took a queue number and waited for number to be called
    Number called and scanned thumbs
Lady said will be activated in 24hrs and I need to use manual lane again for the next visit

I previously had a China work visa and resident visa attached to my passport

Was not asked for passport at any time
    In Shenzhen again now
    72 hours after I left
Tried to enter via echannel despite being told I need to go to manual lane for second visit before I can use echannel (see previous post)
    Went through!

    BECAUSE I’M DA MAN

Seriously, nobody in China knows what the fuck they are talking about

My suggestion is if you can exit via echannel after your first visit then you are good to go

On my first trip back to SZ (since have entered previously with the permit and completed the e-registration), I was able to cross through the e-channel.

So I went and registered on the HZMB bridge. The lady told me that for leaving China, I can use the gate right away. No need to wait. For coming back in, I would need to wait 24 hrs. I think this is so their systems have enough time to spread the information to all the immigration ports.

She did say I had to use the manual lane 1 more time but I think this is just standard thing to cover their a** so you are not there complaining about why it doesn't work. Later she told me to just try the echannel first anyway. If it doesn't work then go to the manual lane.

I visited with my new MTP for the first time two days ago (Sunday 25th) at Shenzhen Bay. Only my thumb prints were scanned. My wife and I were told that I could use the card later in the day to return.

That evening, the China gate let me in but the fingerprint scanner did not recognize my thumb prints - and nor my wife's when she followed me through with her native Hongkonger's Home Return Permit. Perhaps a faulty gate, as the HK gate then had no problem with our thumb prints.

Shenzhen Bay. Lined up in the Chinese line. Entered with permit and was asked for a phone number (+852 was okay), and all my fingerprints were taken.

Turned left, went to the 2nd floor and did the e channel registration. They said I would be able to use the e channel to exit from tomorrow onwards, but I'd need to use the manual lane to enter one more time to collect all of my fingerprints ("because they only collected the thumbs" at the registration).

I went out to Shenzhen for a couple of hours and successfully used the e channel on the way out on the same day.

I'll go to Shenzhen again tomorrow I guess.

For Huanggang there is an office located on Mainland side arrival departure once you clear immigration.

Seems like all people with this card are getting moved to foreigner line per my observation today.

Meaning unless you register for Echannel the wait will be long as usual.

Looks like my fingerprint registration at SZ Bay didn't "take" - was not able to use the e-channel at Luohu today.

But I'm eligible for the Seniors line which is often shorter than the queues for the e-channels, so am seriously considering not faffing about with the e-channel thing further.

I would like to share my experience. There is in fact an e-Channel registration counter at West Kowloon HSR station. After crossing HK border before crossing China border, there is an e-Channel registration counter located at the far end on the left. It takes around 5 mins and they only registered my two thumbs. After that I crossed using foreigner’s lane. I returned to HK the next day using the e-Channel counter in Luohu… smooth and quick.

While in Shenzhen, I checked into a 3 star hotel in Longhua using the MTP.. no issues or questions asked. I went SZ again, this time via Futian and was able to use the e-Channel with no issues. Also checked into another SZ hotel using MTP again with no issues. Never had to show my passport but I still brought it along just in case.
