    Question PR application

    Hello fellow geoexpats,

I wonder whether anyone can help or point me in the right direction.

I arrived in HK in 2021. I'm a Hong Kong resident. Im expected to get PR in 2028. This year, I'm going to need to accompany my child abroad to study overseas. This will affect my continuous residence in the last 2 years. I have no job ties but my HKPR parents are here and I will be staying with them. I aim to return during the school holidays so that I'll not be absent for more than 6 months at any given time. Will my "ordinary resident" be impacted due to this absence on the face of this information? I appreciate that this may not necessarily be easy to answer but I'll be grateful for any guidance especially if anyone can share a similar experience.

Also, can anyone advise if the dependents will get PR should the main applicant be successful or will the dependents need to qualify in their own right?

    Thanks in advance.

PR is not automatically extended to dependants - they have to 'qualify' on their own as perr my understanding (other than children of two PE parents who are born in HKG if I am not mistaken).

I know that Oridnary Residence continues for those who go abroad for education and return during the holidays. But I have no idea if that would apply to a parent accompanying their child. I guess you could email Immigration and ask.

Thanks. Hope they will be able to give me a straight answer and not fob me off!

Golden rule is that you may not be away for more than 6 months otherwise you don’t qualify for pr after seven years of stay

What type of visa do you have at the moment? Are you dependent on these parents somehow or on a spouse visa?

if you have the RTL by your own, then why do you still need PR (ROA)? marginally better but for all matters doesn't move the needle
