Post HK ID Card - Could Not Collect

I upgraded my HK ID card to the smart one, however, due to some family issues I was not able to collect it and had to leave HK. Does anyone know what happens if you do not collect your smart ID and how do you reapply. I tried applying online but it is showing that I already hold a smart ID card.

You should check with immigration. No clue if they store unclaimed ID cArds for a longer period or if they destroy then.

If they are not stored, I suspect you will have to report it as unclaimed / lost / damaged and apply for a replacement

You're also able to use the same passport to enter hong kong, together with your old ID. The passport should be the same one they have on file ! Just line up in the manual lane

Thanks. I did not use a passport to enter. My ID was valid when I entered. I have messaged the IMD and waiting to hear from them. I think its likely I will have to report it and then obtain a new one. Thanks for your help!

I signed a document and my friend was able to get it for me back in the day. I think probably still possible.

Yes, but I mean, if your passport you enter hong kong with again is tied to your HKID. You're free to reenter hong kong without the hkid. If your old hkid is still with you you can show both. No stress!

i believe old IDs are sucked up when you applied for a new one, and they give you a paper form in place of ID that you can use to come in and out of hk.

However that paper ID is likely assigned with a 1 month effective date for where you are suppose to collect your ID and it goes out of effect at the end of the 1 month.
