    Naturalization as a chinese citizen

    Hi all,

I am a filipino citizen of chinese decent. My father is born in hongkong with a permanent i.d. He also has Hk passport and BNO Passport.

Since I am not a Chinese citizen, I am only entitled to right to land. Correct?

I am planning to be naturalized as a chinese citizen and planning to renounce my Filipino Citizenship. Would that help me in anyway. Do i still need to live in hong kong for 7 years to be eligible for naturalization.

Also, what does it mean to live there for 7 years? does it mean that i have to be there a total of 2555 days? or can i go back and forth for 7 years?

    thanks very much...

    mylesdj,

If your parents are married legally in HK and you are born in HK, then you are HK citizen.

Carang says it true, you better contact the immig dept.

Sadly, even your dad is a British National (Overseas), his BN(O) citizenship is currently not transmissible. Since you are not stateless, there is no way for you to acquire any form of UK nationality.

However, if BN(O)s are successful to striving for full UK citizenship, it is likely that you may apply for a residence visa in the UK. You may live in the UK for a few years and naturalise as a British citizen.

I think it'll depend on where he was born. If he wasn't born in HK he wouldn't inherit any rights in HK regardless of his parent's status.

I think if he was born in HK and his father is a 3star HKID holder, then he'll also have ROA & 3stars. Don't think marriage status comes into it as long as his birth certificate states who his father is.

If you were born in HK, I think you'll have ROA & 3 stars. Otherwise There are a number of threads online about people born overseas to parents with ROA & 3 stars & BNO who were able to get ROA/RTL so I agree with the others that you should check with immd.

As for naturalisation, you need 7 years legal residency. Doesn't mean you can't leave HK, I think max is 180 days outside of HK.
