You can get a 1 year multiple entry visa as a foreign student?

Also, do you really need to give proof that you revoked your Canadian citizenship in Canada for China to give you the chinese citizenship? Or is it just a formality/statement you would make in China?

Also, I'm not sure I can really lose Canadian citizenship since I was born there. Even if I can revoke it, I think I can always get it back. Any thoughts?

i would think that if you revoked it, then you would have to apply for citizenship...

i would check it out from relevant sources before you do this for a simple 3 month trip. to be completely honest, what you are proposing sounds a little insane to me.

Yes, I want HKSAR passport so I can get a return home permit to China... I was told by IMMD official thought that if I try to get HKSAR passport and am rejected, I could lose my *** !!!! Sounds risky then eh!?
*** just means you are eligible for a Hong Kong re-entry permit, although in a way it kind of means you are a Chinese citizen. But I think you probably just applied for your HKID card before 1997, when the rules were not as clear, and *** meant Chinese race

Were your parents PR or citizens when you were born in Canada? If yes then you probably shouldn't have *** anyway. Which makes the HKSAR thing a moot point.

It sounds like you don't have a current ID card, I don't think M is used on them now. It stands for male.

Yes, you have to prove that you renounced your other citizenship.

And sorta, you would have to re-apply for PR in Canada (just as an immigrant), then live for a year to get citizenship back.

For a 3 month trip, that would seem insane, just make sure you know what you are doing first.

You should probably check out first whether Hu Jintao still thinks you're one of his subjects. If so, then China considers you one of its citizens who just happens to use foreign travel documents. You can get a home return permit and use it to travel to China. You could also get an additional HKSAR passport.

If they don't consider you a Chinese citizen anymore, then you'll probably loose these three stars, but they don't mean anything - they just symbol your status _at the time of issue_. In that case, you'd become a Canadian citizen with ROA in HK, which means you should probably have no problems in obtaining even a three year multi entry.

If you have a visa status in Hong Kong with validty of more than one year, you can apply for a one year multiple entry visa to China. I know a few people who have already done this. Since you're a permanent identity card holder, you should be eligible for the three year visa.

And yes, if you renounce your Canadian citizenship, you will have to go through the " normal " immigration channels to qualify for PR. Assuming you're over the age of 22 , you won't be able to have your parents sponsor you for this. If your spouse is a Canadian citizen, she can sponsor you for PR but this may take 1 - 2 years to process your application. After obtaining PR, you must have lived in Canada for one year with PR status to regain your citizenship. Unlike other countries like the UK and Australia, Canada will not want you back unless you've got something valuable to offer back to the country - investment, skills etc. This is how I interpret it.

Interestingly, if a British Citizen renounces his/her citizenship to acquire another one, they are entitled to have their UK citizenship restored once without question.

I went to the passport office, showed them my id card with ***AMO and was told that I could get the HKSAR passport.

    Should I trust them??

I think it doesn't hurt because without the HKSAR passport, your *** is useless anyways.

At most you lose what you probably shouldn't have had anyways. But if you get it, it's a bonus.

Assuming I am fully eligible to apply , how much does a Home Return Permit cost, and how long does the application take?
