Smile Can I apply for US Visa from U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong if I am NOT a HK resident?

Hi all...does anyone know if I can apply for a U.S. Tourist Visa from the U.S. consulate in Hong Kong, if I am not a Hong Kong resident?

I am currently in Hong Kong on a 90-day visitor visa (just visiting Hong Kong from Japan). I want to go to the United States directly from Hong Kong and therefore wish to apply for a U.S. visa from Hong Kong's U.S. consulate.

Since I am not a HK resident, does anyone know if I can still apply for a U.S. visa in Hong Kong or do I need to go back to Japan to apply from the U.S. consulate in Japan?

BY THE WAY...I know many of you are thinking since I live in Japan, I do not need a U.S. visa because Japanese citizens quality for the Visa Waiver Program to the U.S.

Yes, that is true, EXCEPT, I am not a Japanese Citizen. I am a citizen of India, but I live in Japan. So I am 100% sure I need to apply for a Visa before I go to the U.S.

My main question is can I apply for U.S. Visa from U.S. consulate in Hong Kong consulate, given the fact I am not a HK resident?

Please advise, any help/input greatly appreciated.

I dissected the U.S. Consulate in HK website, but could not find the answer to my question.

Calling them is a ridiculous fee of $10 HKD per minute. I'm not going to pay for that information. So I emailed them instead, but until I hear back from them, I wanted to see what the community had to say regarding my question....thanks

HK$10/min to call them on the phone, although email and fax enquiries are available: Visa Inquiries - Consulate General of the United States Hong Kong and Macau

But the answer (from the website which you claim to have scoured) is, in principle yes, but you'll need a good reason why you're not applying in your country of residence.

Note that it will cost you HK$1040 to apply, and in your situation they are quite likely to say "go back to Japan and apply there. Thank you for the HK$1040. The application fee is non-refundable."

    the cold fact, NO WAY....

you can apply, but they will never accept your application, also your chances in Japan are depend on how long you live in Japan, residency, financial status, and finally you must prove your intensions to return back to Japan (or to depart USA)

They will pocket the visa application fee ~1000HKD and will answer go back to your resident country. This is what happened to my father who was in Hong Kong on visitor visa.

don't know what kind of dissecting you are doing but it's pretty clear on the website. I guess you are probably too cheap to pay me $10 for this information.

answer is no!!!!! more info here
