Re-entering Hong Kong as a Tourist

    Hi all,

Been staying in hong kong over the last 3 months on a tourist visa and am going abroad to Bangkok for a week. Need to return to Hong Kong but should I be worried about them letting me back into Hong Kong without having proof that I will not be staying longer than 3 months?

How do I go about applying for a tourist visa extension?

    thank you all,

    R

If you hold a passport from a rich country, and are white, apparently it's not much of a problem to re-enter.

But of course it's running a risk.

If you want to be safe, I'd book a ticket back to your home country. If an immigration officer sees that you have proof of onward travel and sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay, they won't have any hesitation in letting you in.

As Hairball mentioned, if you hold a passport from a rich country, you don't have to really worry.

    Thanks for replies guys.
    I'm asian.
I'm not exactly intended to stay in HK for the whole 3 months because I will either take a trip to Macau or China for couple of days. Traveling. But there's no proof of it since you don't really need to buy ticket to either places in advance.

My return ticket is couple of days after my tourist visa in HK expired. That's why i was wondering if I could actually extend the tourist visa?

You can extend at immigration tower, but will need to show a very good reason why you need to stay here longer and how you are supporting yourself - and it is usually a one off, one extension usually only given. Also the extension given might not be for very long.

I do not see a big problem, especially because you come in by air. I would tell them that I plan to stay another 2 weeks for example (They would normally still stamp 3 months). Then do another visa run when the ticket will be within the new validity.

It is still not compeltely risk free, but quite unlikely to go wrong.
