application for naturalisation for Chinese nationality.

The application has been thrown around this forum for people like me who's parents were chinese nationals who settled overseas before bearing children.

What is this application for naturalisation for Chinese nationality. What are the circumstances which I could apply and how do I do it?

I think this will explain quite clearly:
The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region - Immigration Department

Keep in mind that it is a requirement to renounce your existing nationality before you can become Chinese.

I would be rather wary of doing so, unless you were *positive* that you could get a HK SAR passport (i.o mainland) simply for travel facility. Or unless you know that your country would be willing to re-instate your citizehship afterwards. My chinese friends spend lots of time in different embassies just to get a visa to go abroad for a few days.

If the travel is for business an APEC card might be a less risky route..

It should be straight forward for the application for Naturalization. I had a friend that applied for this and it took him around 8 months to get approved..

If you get to choose an Immigration Lawyer to help you with this case, kindly post on how much they'll charge for this service..

It took me about 5 months in total, from the day I picked up the application till the day I got my HKSAR Passport.

You don't need to go through a lawyer. The process is simple. Fill in all the forms and submit required documents. They will send you a letter saying its under process. Few months later they will call you up for a quick little interview and ask for further documents if required.

Few weeks after that, they will send another letter telling you if your application is successfull, to surrender your current nationality and bring that surrender letter to complete your Chinese naturalization.
