    HK Permanent ID symbols

Anyone know what no stars means on a Permanent ID?

I've seen the explanation for 3 stars and 1 star on the immigration website, but can't find anything about no stars.

    Thank much.

"A" means right of abode. All the permanent IDs will have the "A".

Having a 1 star (under 18) or 3 stars (18 or over), means you are eligible for a Hong Kong Re-entry Permit. It essentially represents Chinese citizenship.

So having no stars (essentially) means that you are a Permanent Resident but not a Chinese Citizen. This in turn normally means that you gained the Permanent Residence through living in HK for 7 years continuously. Which again in turn means that if you do not visit HK at least once every 36 months then your Right of Abode will be downgraded to Right to Land.

Right to Land is exactly the same as RoA except:
    1) You can't vote
    2) You can be deported for serious offences
    3) Your kids would not have the automatic right of abode if born in HK.
